Dear Friends and Neighbors, The arts have the power to captivate, heal, inspire, and bring people together. When words aren’t enough, or thoughts may be too difficult to say, art can be the bridge between our communities.
The arts have the power to captivate, heal, inspire, and bring people together. When words aren’t enough, or thoughts may be too difficult to say, art can be the bridge between our communities.
As a member of the Congressional Arts Caucus, I am always working hard in Congress to ensure that our cultural institutions, museums, and educational centers receive the federal funding they deserve and the resources they need to thrive.
Whether it’s the visual arts, the literary arts, or the performing arts — art is part of Sacramento’s DNA. It is instrumental in telling the stories and experiences of people and families across our region. Our art reflects that evolution by celebrating our region’s diverse communities and our different experiences.
Sacramento is a cultural hub. Our community is deeply rooted in our creative economy and in the arts. Whether it is the sculptures that dot our parks, the beautiful paintings that hang in the Crocker or the murals that decorate our streets, Sacramento understands the importance of bringing creative spaces and public art to the masses.
That’s why I fought hard to secure funding for Sacramento’s creative community through the American Rescue Plan — including over $500,000 for our local artists who were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a member of the Smithsonian Board of Regents, I will continue to advocate for expanding our cultural fabric and for sharing our national heritage with all communities.
I am honored to represent you in Congress, and if you ever need anything from my office, please visit my websiteor call us at 916-498-5600.
Sincerely,
Doris Matsui
